Cold wax vs. depilatory cream

Cold wax vs. depilatory cream

Depilatory cold-wax strips have started gaining ground in recent years mainly due to certain technological developments as well as the emergence of new ingredients which ensure better results. The effects of cold-wax strips last longer than shaving and depilatory creams, although considerably less than hot-wax depilation.

Cold wax
Cold wax, in a paste or gel form, can be applied to your skin directly. There is no need of melting, but only a quick warm up between your palms. Although we call it cold-wax, in many cases it is a chemical substance in gel form, which does not have the effectiveness of hot wax. The application is very easy and the results are quite satisfactory.

Advantages
Cold wax is effective and offers a silky effect which lasts for at least two weeks. It is a very economical, fast and easy method to use. You do not need any special preparation and after frequent use, you will observe hair becoming weaker and sparser. The effects last longer than both shaving and depilation with creams.

Disadvantages
Most cold waxes make a mess during use. Also, the colder the room is, the more difficult the application and removal get. Many of the cold-wax strips sold on the market do not contain wax, but chemicals in the form of paste whose effectiveness is influenced by external factors. Also, the hair should be at least three millimeters long to remove and it often causes mild irritation.

Depilatory creams
Depilatory creams are popular, because they are very easy to use and give fast results. Just like with shaving, using depilatory creams is an easy, quick and painless method to remove unwanted hair.

Depilatory creams contain chemicals which “burn” the hair, i.e. they dissolve the protein structure of the hair and weaken it. Within about 10 minutes of use you will notice your hairs start to soften and will easily be removed with a spatula.

Advantages
It is an extremely fast and completely painless method. You do not need any preparation and you can “show off” the epilated area immediately after the process. After use, your skin remains soft because such creams usually contain moisturizing agents. With frequent use, you will also observe your hair becoming weaker and sparser. The effect lasts longer than shaving.

Disadvantages
Depilation using creams does not remove all the hairs from the root, thus they grow back relatively quickly. Sometimes it causes a temporary “whitening” of the region it was used on. Since it is a chemical process, unlike wax which is natural, you should be careful and use all the necessary precautions.
